{"id":2959,"date":"2019-05-20T15:23:37","date_gmt":"2019-05-20T13:23:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/a-corros.fr\/?page_id=2959"},"modified":"2019-06-11T16:45:06","modified_gmt":"2019-06-11T14:45:06","slug":"research-innovation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/a-corros.fr\/en\/research-innovation\/","title":{"rendered":"Research &#038; innovation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Since its creation, A-CORROS has been committed to R&amp;D, investing time and resources to improve our understanding of ancient materials, and techniques for measuring corrosion and optimising treatment and anticorrosion protection protocols for metals. <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Although a large part of our activities focus\non the past and ancient materials, research and innovation are one of\nA-CORROS\u2019s key areas of development \u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Archaeologists seek to understand past lives in\norder to anticipate our lives in the future.&nbsp; We have chosen to apply this\nprincipal to metallic materials: understanding ancient metals allows us to\nbetter identify, assess and preserve them, as well as to develop innovative\nmaterials and techniques to protect them and improve durability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently since 2010, A-CORROS has invested\nnearly 450&nbsp;000 \u20ac of its own funds into its Research, Development,\nInnovation and Analysis Sector. This research aims to <strong>improve our knowledge of ancient materials and the ways that they\ndeteriorate<\/strong> and to <strong>optimise diagnostic\ntechniques and anticorrosion treatments <\/strong>(corrosion stabilisation, new\ncoatings, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stabilisation using subcritical\nfluids<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Our principal focus has been the creation of the <strong>first machine in Europe for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.a-corros.fr\/en\/division\/stabilisation-en\/\">the stabilisation of archaeological objects using subcritical fluids<\/a><\/strong>. A revolution! Thanks to the Research Tax Credit, a true \u2018research driver\u2019 for micro-enterprises, A-CORROS has passed through the various phases of research and now offers its clients <strong>the largest subcritical machine for treating archaeological artefacts in the world<\/strong>.&nbsp; It was awarded the 2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inrap.fr\/les-trophees-2018-de-l-inrap-souligner-l-engagement-de-ses-partenaires-et-les-13689\">National Prize for R&amp;D from INRAP<\/a>. This machine, although a prototype, has revolutionised the stabilisation process because it <strong>decreases by about 30 times the treatment period required for archaeological artefacts<\/strong> (from nine months on average to about ten days) and it also <strong>reduces the amount of water and chemicals necessary<\/strong> for treatment. It is currently effective in treating ferrous alloys and in development for copper alloys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">LABCOM LETRIP<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of this research objective, A-CORROS\nhas developed an ongoing partnership with the Laboratoire d\u2019Arch\u00e9omat\u00e9riaux et\nde Pr\u00e9vision de l\u2019Alt\u00e9ration, LAPA\/NIMBE, joint research unit No. 3685 of\nCNRS\/CEA Universit\u00e9 Paris Saclay. Following the co-financing of the doctoral\nthesis of Marine BAYLE, a LABCOM programme, LETRIP: Laboratoire d\u2019Etudes des\nTraitements et Rev\u00eatements Innovants pour le Patrimoine (Laboratory for the\nStudy of Innovative Treatments and Coatings for Heritage), was financed by the\nAgence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) for the period 2015-2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This collaboration has evolved into a long-term partnership. From 2019 to 2022, our two organisations are working in concert on another ANR programme called <strong>SOS: Save Our Shipwrecks<\/strong>, in collaboration with Department of Underwater Archaeological Research (DRASSM) of the Ministry of Culture and IPREM (UMR CNRS No. 5254) at the University of Pau and Pays de l\u2019Adour. The objective of this programme is to examine metal shipwrecks in order to protect them from irreversible deterioration and then, to apply the acquired data to improve future protection of port and naval infrastructure. Here, conserving our past truly helps to preserve our future\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Projet DIAMOND<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A-CORROS\u2019s industrial division is also involved in the innovative Projet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projet-diamond.com\/\">DIAMOND<\/a> in collaboration with the Laboratoire d\u2019Etudes et de Recherche sur les Mat\u00e9riaux (LERM, SETEC group), EDF and the Laboratoire Mat\u00e9riaux et Durabilit\u00e9 des Constructions at INSA Toulouse. This project aims to create a range of probes for measuring the corrosion rate of reinforcements in concrete, adaptable to all environments (buried and submerged), remote-controlled, in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other research projects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Feasibility of desalination of stone\nby electrophoresis<\/strong>:\na project in collaboration with the Centre Interr\u00e9gional de Conservation\nRestoration du Patrimoine (CICRP) in Marseille<\/li><li><strong>Knowledge of puddled iron<\/strong>: to better understand this\nmaterial, an ancestor of steel, in order to minimise sampling on-site and\nbetter anticipate its mechanical characteristics and evaluate its weldability\nin the context of rehabilitation programmes.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since its creation, A-CORROS has been committed to R&amp;D, investing time and resources to improve our understanding of ancient materials, and techniques for measuring corrosion and optimising treatment and anticorrosion protection protocols for metals.
